ELNET Announcements 

EL Work Equity Survey

Faculty members in the Educational Leadership (EL) rank will be invited to participate in a survey beginning  April 26 and ending May 14. This survey is positioned in the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives from the UBC President’s Office.  Led by EL faculty members, the aim is to examine work roles held in this rank. The survey is divided in two sections: Work Equity Survey and Self-Identification. We would like to hear about your perspectives, experiences and suggestions. Your participation is voluntary and anonymous.

A final report of the results of the survey will be sent to the President’s Office and to the ELNET population. We anticipate that the ELNET community will bring forward recommendations based on these initial results.

ELNET Event Call for Presenters

2nd Annual “Market Place” Event: Love It or Lose It: Ideas to Keep in Your Teaching Practice and Ones to Let Go

You are invited to submit a presentation for ELNET’s 2nd Annual Marketplace: “Love it or Lose it”.  We have all tried many new methods to enhance teaching during our rapid transition to remote instruction this academic year, and this is a great opportunity to reflect on and share lessons learned and materials that might serve us in future teaching. This event will be co-sponsored by UBCV CTLT and UBCO CTL as part of “Celebrate Learning Week,” May 17 at 4:00-5:30 pm. 

Please complete the short form below if you are keen to present. Presentation submissions will be reviewed by the ELNET committee and presenters will be notified shortly. Additionally, confirmed presenters will be asked to prepare a short summary handout to support their presentation that will be provided to all participants. SAR invites interested individuals to participate in the new Volunteer Proofreader Initiative by offering professional, individualized edits and suggestions to CVs, cover letters, teaching statements, and other documents relevant to the academic job search. By providing professional edits and recommendations, you will help not only in addressing a scholar’s immediate proofreading needs but also in supporting a scholar’s understanding of the fundamental aspects of the job application process.

Introducing our Celebrate Learning Week Keynote Speaker, Cia Verschelden. Recognize the impact of societal realities, learn about the bandwidth concept, and explore how to implement strategies to help students regain the cognitive resources to be successful.

Call for Proposals: SoTL Seed Program

The UBC Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISoTL) and the Centre for Teaching, Learning, & Technology offer a support program for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The SoTL Seed Program provides graduate research assistants, collegial support, and complementary funding for projects that seek to research and evaluate impactful pedagogies. Selected projects broaden our understanding of teaching and learning in higher education and show a potential for significant contributions to the UBC community and beyond. 

 

Projects are strategically selected to reflect the breadth of work at UBC in terms of disciplines, scholarly approaches, and expertise.

Rolling Call for Proposals: SoTL Dissemination Fund

Last year the Provost Office announced a new fund to support the publishing and dissemination of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning work. The funds are managed and adjudicated by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) and the Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISoTL). 

The Dissemination Fund supports journal processing feedback, conference registration, travel costs, etc. All full time faculty at UBC-V are eligible to apply.

Survey Invitation: Teaching Multilingual Student

Dear UBC Colleague,

Do you teach multilingual undergraduate students who speak English as an additional language in your UBC courses (at UBC-V or UBC-O)? If so, we would like to hear from you by participating in an online survey.

This survey is part of a study (Ethics ID H20-03118) that investigates instructors’ perspectives towards working with multilingual students at UBC. This project will contribute valuable insights to inform institutional policies and guidelines and create enhanced supports for instructors who teach multilingual undergraduate students.
