ELNET Mentorship Program Reminder

ELNET facilitates mentorship for educational leadership faculty, including preparing your dossier for promotion and tenure, helping you prioritize and determine focus of EL activities, and simply making connections with other EL faculty at UBC! If you are interested in being mentored, please send an email to sally.willis-stewart@ubc.ca, luisa.canuto@ubc.ca, or robert.crawford@ubc.ca and we will find a wonderful mentor to match you with.

Celebrate Learning Week (CLW) Call for Contributions

The 2022 Celebrate Learning Week (CLW) Call for Contributions has now opened! UBCV and UBCO will again collaboratively present this online and in-person initiative from May 9–13, 2022. 

 This year’s theme is Promoting Inclusivity and Accessibility and we invite contributions that demonstrate accessible and effective learning spaces for all students; equity, diversity and inclusion; student experiences; open educational resources; and wellbeing.  

We appreciate your support with circulating this call for submissions to your colleagues and promoting it to your audience. The 13th annual CLW is open to all UBC faculty, staff, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students. We are accepting proposals until April 13, 2022.

What I Learned in Class Today: Student Perspectives Film Virtual Launch

April 12 | 11:00 am–12:30 pm

The What I Learned In Class Today Project Team is honoured to debut the Renewed Student Perspectives Two-Part Film. The renewed materials are a continuation of the 2007 Original Students Perspective Video, a student led-project that sparked university wide movements and conversations on Indigenous student experiences in the classroom and overall classroom climate when Indigenous topics are discussed. Unpacking Harmful Phrases

April 25 | 10:00 am–12:00 pm

Using anti-oppressive and decolonial frameworks, intervention models and practical tools, participants will engage in group activities and discussion that deconstruct specific harmful phrases and behaviours, their roots, and ways to address them. Register.

 

Exploring Complex Classroom Dynamics Using Case-Studies

May 24 | 10:00 am–12:00 pm

This interactive and practice-based workshop explores complex classroom dynamics, such as microaggressions and tensions when students have conflicting world views. Register.

 

Teaching Philosophy Statements: Show me the Good Stuff

May 26 | 10:00–11:30 am 

Explore what constitutes an effective teaching philosophy statement, and review and discuss strong examples. Register.

 

Course Design Intensive

June 14, 16 & 21 | 9:00 am–4:00 pm

This intensive program offers participants an opportunity to work, individually and collaboratively, to design or re-design a course they are (or will be) teaching. Register.

Call for Reviewers

ISSOTL sponsors multiple initiatives that require peer reviews: proposals to the annual conference, submissions to Teaching & Learning Inquiry (ISSOTL’s journal), nominations for awards, applications to the ISSOTL Fellows Program, and other occasional needs for multiple perspectives.

We invite you to contribute to the work of the Society by adding yourself to ISSOTL’s pool of potential reviewers. Then, when reviewers are needed, you would receive an invitation to serve for that specific reason. (If it’s a busy time, you may always defer to a later occasion.)
